Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Dragon Within Mixed Martial Arts is proud to be a member of the Tim Burrill Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Network. Tim Burrill is one of the first Americans to receive a black belt from 8th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Carlos Machado. Tim not only brings the philosophy and technique of Machado Jiu-Jitsu, but also other talents and his own personal way of teaching, making his style of BJJ unique from all other. So come be part of the DWMMA family and train at the only Tim Burrill/Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school on the North Shore.

BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position. It uses joint-locks and choke holds to force an opponent to submit. Today, BJJ is practiced for fun, self-defense or sport by hobbyists, professional fighters, military, and law enforcement alike.

I am 42 years old, married with three young children. I have been learning

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) at Dragon Within Martial Arts since January 2006. As a sport, BJJ is a great way to develop conditioning, flexibility and strength. As a martial art, BJJ is a

practical and effective method of self-defense. Aside from the physical benefits, the classes are a great way to get rid of stress.

I work as a portfolio manager in Boston and given my busy work and travel schedule it is important that there are plenty of opportunities to take classes during the week. In addition I ha

ve been able to take advantage of one-on-one classes with instructor Dennis as well as attending the seminars held at the gym by Dennis’s instructors.
I enjoy the friendly and relaxed training environment and the instructors create a positive atmosphere for self-development. Ultimately this is a fun and rewarding activity. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a physical challenge.

I have always been active in athletics. I run, lift weights, and play basketball and lacrosse on occasion. Even with all that I was getting bored and frustrated with my workout routine. I had always loved martial arts and I earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do as a kid. I found DWMMA and decided to take a trial week. I was hooked instantly! I started with only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but have since grown into boxing and MMA as well. I find that it’s an amazing workout and overall experience. The gym is clean and well outfitted with a large mat space, boxing ring, section of cage and numerous bags. The instruction is top notch. Dennis, Mike and Alan are all in sync as instructors yet each brings a unique style to their lessons.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu might seem intimidating for a female however at DWMMA it is not. You are only pushed to your limit to maintain a safe workout. Everyone there, instructor and student alike, are there to help one another build their knowledge. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an amazing workout, which I would recommend to anyone, male or female, looking to get in shape!
